Wash dal thoroughly until water runs clear.
Pressure cook dal with turmeric, salt, and 3 cups water for 3-4 whistles.
Mash the cooked dal lightly with a ladle to get a creamy texture.
Prepare tadka: Heat ghee in a small pan.
Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
Add chopped garlic and dried red chillies. Fry until garlic gets toasty and fragrant.
Pour sizzling tadka over the dal and cover immediately to trap the aroma.
